Legal cousel, coach and entrepreneur
Roland Straub studied law at the University of Zurich (lic.iur.) and Emory Law, Atlanta GE, U.S. (LL.M.). Admitted to the bar in Zug, Switzerland 1987. Tax and business lawyer in Zug 1991 – 2001. From 2001 to 2011, Straub served as VRP and CEO of a software and data engineering company in Fort Collins, CO, USA. This was followed by training as a business coach and then activities as an SME coach and lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, Extension and Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok. From 2016 to 2020 self-employed business coach and legal consultant in Zurich. 2021/22 Completion of CAS MedLaw at the University of Zurich and establishment of swissmedlaw™.

swissmedlaw™ is an initiative of lawyer and entrepreneur Roland U. Straub, specializing in legal services and coaching , to address the growing importance of medical and health law in the daily lives of Swiss residents. Roland Straub founded swissmedlaw™ 2021 as a sole proprietorship in Zurich and since then has been offering consulting and services in the field of healthcare and medical law. In addition to the common areas of civil, commercial and contract law, swissmedlaw™ also offers advice and coaching on patients’ rights, the Electronic Patient Record (EPR), health insurance and social security law, medical and hospital liability, and legal aspects of the federal eHealth initiative. The preparation and mediation of privacy opinions and medical party opinions are also in the foreground.
swissmedlaw GmbH, an incorporated company since 01.01.2023, offers its services anchored in legal ethics as set out in the declaration of Andreas Noll. In concrete terms, this means that the protection of personal rights and the right to informational self-determination is at the heart of swissmedlaw’s™ activities. By providing information and support for the necessary cultural change, swissmedlaw™ offers guidance and accompaniment to private individuals and organizations to use the achievements and innovations of digitalization in healthcare – while taking into account comprehensive data protection – in a patient-friendly manner. swissmedlaw™ is of the opinion that persons who are capable of judgment and of age and who reside in Switzerland have full ownership and thus control over all their health data. Together with the free choice of doctor, this means a decisive empowerment of the Swiss population in the event of illness and/or disability.
